Mitigating Shiny Skin for Passport Photos

Ensure your passport photo is free from shine or glare. Overly shiny skin can lead to reflections and detract from the clarity of the image.

Shining is the appearance of gloss on the skin.

The forehead, nose bridge, and chin contain many sebaceous glands, which produce more sebum here than, for example, on your neck or cheeks. The sebum causes the skin to shine.

Causes of Shining

There are two reasons why your skin produces too much sebum and shines:

  • Oily Skin: A quickly greasy skin type produces more sebum than normal, causing your skin to shine.
  • Dry Skin: The deeper layers of the skin cannot retain the necessary moisture.

Rules for Shiny Skin in a Passport Photo

In the passport photo, there should be no white spots visible on the face that are caused by the use of a flash or artificial light.

A shiny skin often causes reflection on the photo. Other reasons could be sweating, glasses, or jewelry.
